On Education …
by Lee on April 29, 2007
There is nothing more important to success in life than a proper education.
A handful of people make it big without one, but they often admit they were just incredibly lucky. If you look at the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Current Population Survey, the unemployment rate for someone with a college degree of any kind is dramatically less than someone with a just a high school diploma or less. And when you look at educational attainment in the US Census data for 2006 of the 219,849,000 people 18 years and over, you find:
15.39% Did Not Complete High School
31.57% Graduated High School
19.29% Have Some College Classes
08.25% Have an Associates Degree
16.98% Have a Bachelor Degree
06.00% Have a Master Degree
02.52% Have a Professional or Doctorate Degree
In other words, almost exactly two thirds of Americans do not have a college degree of any kind. But if they achieve even an associates degree, they cut their unemployment rate by half or more.
