SaluteHeroes.org Is A Worthy Charity

My wife was time-shifting one of her favorite programs when we happened to see a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for SaluteHeroes.org by Gary Sinise. We both like Gary as an actor and the graphics as we were zipping through the commercial were interesting enough to cause us to zip back to the beginning to see what it was about.

The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes (CSAH) is a grass-roots and non-partisan charity raising money to help the wounded American veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan since 2004. There are a clear set of eligibility requirements that are verified, but after that, there are a number of services including emergency financial aid, a family support network, kids camps to help kids cope, a career network, and more.

The site includes blogs (RSS Feed) and moving stories by real American heroes, and even some who are willing to share their experience as speakers at events. Photo and video galleries, press kits, a store, and an area where you can meet the heroes round out the rest of the site.

The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes, which runs SaluteHeroes.org, recently won the Best of America Seal through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC #12523) by the Independent Charities of America. To date, they’ve helped over 6,300 veterans and their families with direct aid of over 10 million dollars.

Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the US today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 per cent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded the Best in America Seal of Excellence … CSAH is a member of the Military, Veterans and Patriotic Service Organizations Federation within the CFC Give-at-Work fundraising campaign, which runs from September 1, 2008 to December 15, 2008.

I hope you’ll consider SaluteHeroes.org (CFC #12523) in your charity decision this year.
